Welcome to the Palos East ALPS website. I’m Rebekah Askeland, the ALPS Teacher, and I am so excited to be begin the school year! This will be my second year at Palos East. Previously, I worked with gifted students in Wheaton, IL, and through the Worlds of Wisdom and Wonder. I am passionate and enthusiastic about working with students on higher level thinking, problem solving, and technology projects. This year proves to be a very exciting year, as we will be working on Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling as part of the Zero Waste Grant won by last year’s 5th Grade ALPS class!

I grew up in Bolingbrook, Illinois, where I began my first experiences with gifted education. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music – Voice, from Illinois Wesleyan University, and worked for several years in a variety of positions. While I still enjoy participating in musical endeavors, such as singing with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Grant Park Festival Chorus, I really felt motivated to share my love of learning. I received my Master of Arts with Distinction in Education from North Park University.
