Who
We Are and What We Do District 118 is
fortunate to have reading resource services available to all learners. The Reading Team is composed of two parts: The Emergent Reading Program and the
Reading Resource Program. The Emergent Learning Program reinforces pre-reading skills to
kindergarten, first and second grade students. These skills include: · Developing phonemic
awareness · Learning letter sounds · Identifying upper and
lowercase letters · Recognizing basic sight
words · Increasing fluency · Building comprehension The Reading Resource Program works with students in grades three,
four and five who need extra support in reading. Reading skills taught by the classroom
teacher are reinforced. These skills include: ·
Reinforcing phonics ·
Increasing vocabulary ·
Building fluency ·
Improving comprehension This support, which is
given in the reading resource room as well as in the classroom, often is just
what is needed to ensure success in reading. |
