Reference Resources

Britannica Online is an online encyclopedia.  It also contains three encyclopedias (elementary, middle school, and high school level), a dictionary, and magazine articles.  Please contact the media center for the username and password.

CIA World Factbook contains information about the countries of the world.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary and Thesaurus is a great site to help you with definitions, pronunciations, and synonyms.

PebbleGo contains basic information about animals that is just right for primary students.  Please contact the media center for the username and password.

 

Typing Practice

Log on to Typing Pal to continue working on your typing exercises (apples and baskets), to work on practice texts (envelopes), work on improvement exercises, and--once you have passed step 7--to play games!

Dance Mat Typing is a great site to help you become a super typist.  This site is for people who do not know how to type or are still learning to type.

Bubbles Typing Game from TypingMaster is a fun way to practice your typing skills.  This site is for people who already know how to type.

Typer Shark a typing game from PopCap Games.  This game is for the student who can already type at least 20 words per minute.

 

Graphics and Music

American Memory was created by the Library of Congress.  The vast collection includes photos from the 1902-1933 editions of the Chicago Daily News.

Freeplay Music is a site with mostly instrumental music that can be downloaded and used in your school multimedia projects.

Images of American Political History is a site with images from the late 1600s to modern day dealing with politics in America.

morgueFile.com is a website with photographs that are in the public domain.  These pictures can be used for your projects without violating copyright laws.

U.S. History Images contains pictures that relate to U.S. history.  It currently specializes in Native American history and the explorers.
